Commercial & Technology Associate - Belfast

An opportunity has arisen for an Associate to join a highly ranked commercial, technology and regulatory practice that treats technology and data law as a core strategic focus. The team advises on complex technology transformations and outsourcing, consumer law, routes to market, AI, logistics, licensing and sponsorship, alongside platforms, distribution and franchising, and IP-rich agreements spanning video game development and publishing, sponsorship, advertising, branded content and rights licensing.

The role sits within a genuinely integrated, cross-office team that collaborates seamlessly on UK-wide and multi-jurisdictional projects for brand-name clients across technology, retail, financial services, platforms, entertainment, advanced manufacturing and sport. You will work closely with specialist IP, data, employment and corporate colleagues, with day-to-day overlap across teams on matters including international data transfers, outsourcing and technology-driven transactions.

The primary focus is commercial and technology transactional work, together with supporting a growing corporate team on commercial and technology due diligence. You will draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial and technology agreements, including data processing agreements, and play a key role in servicing clients through a managed legal services offering. The position is offered on a hybrid or fully remote basis, with structured training, knowledge resources and clear career benchmarks to support your development.

• Approximately 3–5 years' post-qualification experience in a Commercial, Technology or related practice area (more senior applicants with relevant experience may also be considered).
• Excellent technical legal skills, with strong drafting, analytical and communication abilities and high attention to detail.
• Experience of a wide variety of commercial and technology contracts, ideally within a medium or large private practice firm or a specialist commercial, technology or data-focused practice.
• Experience supporting corporate transactions from a commercial and technology perspective, including due diligence.
• Confidence reviewing and negotiating data processing agreements, with a strong working knowledge of data privacy.
• Interest in AI, legal technology and innovative, efficient approaches to client service delivery, including managed legal services models.
• Commercial, practical and proactive approach, with the ability to manage matters effectively and build trusted long-term client relationships.
• Enthusiasm for business development, thought leadership and client training.
• Excellent academics and qualification as a lawyer holding a current UK practising certificate.
