An Am Law 100 firm
Apply in confidence →A leading Am Law firm is seeking a Conflicts Attorney to manage ethical and business risks arising from new business opportunities. You will analyze conflicts search reports to identify potential conflicts of interest—in connection with both prospective new matters and, at times, prior and prospective business tied to lateral hires—and work to resolve them within prevailing ethical rules and firm policy.
Working independently with attorneys across the firm, you will review engagement terms and outside counsel guidelines, prepare written summaries of conflicts issues, document the rationale for resolutions, and communicate directly with firm attorneys and the firm's General Counsel to drive the conflicts clearance process. Where needed, you will obtain and validate waivers and establish ethical walls to screen individuals from particular clients and matters.
This is a collaborative, detail-driven role suited to a lawyer comfortable exercising sound judgment and managing a high-volume workload under time pressure. The position is offered across multiple offices and is not available to individuals living or working in New York City.
- Juris Doctor and Bachelor's degree
- Bar admission in good standing in any US state or the District of Columbia
- Minimum of two years of conflicts experience in a large law firm environment preferred
- Additional legal practice experience a plus
- Knowledge of common business structures
- Experience with a conflicts database and conflicts-checking software (Intapp Open preferred)
- Familiarity with corporate-affiliation databases (e.g., Hoovers, Dun & Bradstreet, Capital IQ) and online reference materials
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong critical thinking, issue spotting, and written and oral communication skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and manage a large volume of information under time pressure
