Apply in confidence →

A global law firm is seeking a solicitor or senior associate to join its market-leading Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT), Data and IP transactions team in Melbourne. The practice is long-established locally and operates as one of the largest stand-alone TMT, data and IP practices in the Australian market, forming a critical part of the firm's global technology transactions offering.

Lawyers work on a "one team" basis across the Melbourne group and routinely within integrated project teams spanning Australia, APAC, the UK, continental Europe and the USA. The team often leads cross-border mandates and manages relationships with truly global clients, functioning as a Melbourne-based global practice.

The role spans the full spectrum of technology and data transactions: digital transformations, digital infrastructure, technology and business-process outsourcing, IP commercialisation, data commercialisation and governance, privacy, cyber and information security, AI and emerging technologies, and strategic sourcing. There is also exposure to technology, IP, cyber, privacy and data separation aspects of M&A, restructures and carve-outs alongside corporate and projects colleagues.

The practice is client-centric, generally representing leading Australian, regional and global corporations rather than technology or software vendors, with particular focus on mining and resources, energy, financial services, telecommunications and consumer sectors. The successful candidate will work directly with partners, of counsel and clients, contribute to strategic advice and client relationship development, and help train and mentor junior lawyers.

  • Admission to practice as a lawyer in Australia or New Zealand
  • Minimum 3 years' experience at a leading private practice firm or in-house legal team
  • Demonstrated experience in at-scale technology transactions, transformations, digital infrastructure, outsourcing, strategic sourcing, data commercialisation, privacy, IP commercialisation and/or telecommunications transactions
  • Strong drafting, analytical and negotiation skills with close attention to detail
  • Collaborative, commercial and pragmatic approach to legal problem-solving and clear communication of complex advice
  • Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies
  • Genuine interest in developing others and fostering an inclusive culture
