A highly regarded law firm
Apply in confidence →A highly regarded law firm is seeking a talented associate to join its nationally recognised, Tier 1 ranked defendant professional negligence practice in London. Acting for insurers, brokers and other insurance-sector clients, the team handles complex and high-profile cases across the legal, financial services, property, technology, media and business consultancy sectors.
The role involves advising and representing policyholders in contentious matters before the County Court, High Court, TCC and commercial courts, as well as under the Financial Ombudsman Service and other consumer redress schemes. You will engage with challenging and novel issues of professional liability and insurance law, including scope of duty, breach, causation, quantum and complex policy liability questions.
Reporting to insurer clients against exacting service standards is essential, showing aptitude for accurate reserving, clear case planning and proactive strategy. You will apply sound knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules — costs management, funding, Part 36 offers, pre-action protocols, interim measures, disclosure and expert instructions — and stay abreast of reforms and pilot schemes such as the Online Court, Fixed Recoverable Costs and the Disclosure Pilot. The role also calls for commercial, cost-effective claims solutions through ADR, expert and QC determinations, arbitrations, adjudications and conventional negotiation, along with relationship-building across policyholders, insurers, brokers and counsel.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful and ambitious team working on professional indemnity, D&O, FI and coverage matters across traditional and emerging sectors. The firm offers hybrid and flexible working, a comprehensive benefits package, enhanced parental leave and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Qualified lawyer with experience in professional indemnity, insurance or commercial litigation.
- Strong knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules, including costs management, funding, Part 36 and disclosure.
- Experience advising and representing policyholders in contentious matters before the courts and redress schemes.
- Ability to manage reserving, case planning and proactive strategy while meeting exacting insurer service standards.
- Commercial awareness, an enquiring mind and a commitment to excellent client service.
- Confident relationship-building with policyholders, insurers, brokers and counsel.
