A leading law firm is seeking an associate to join one of the largest tax practice groups, focused on commodity tax. The role offers a broad and stimulating mandate advising businesses on indirect tax matters across a diverse client base.

The successful candidate will advise companies on the application of commodity tax rules — including GST/HST, QST, provincial sales taxes, excise taxes and other specific indirect taxes — and represent businesses during audits and objections. The role also involves supporting the structuring of commercial transactions to minimize adverse commodity tax consequences and contributing to the drafting of commercial contracts.

The firm offers a competitive total compensation package with a bonus program, a flexible work model combining remote and in-office work, health and wellness benefits, telemedicine, a generous retirement savings plan, and a collegial culture grounded in respect, openness, innovation, diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil law
  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec
  • Master's degree in tax law (completed or in progress) or completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program
  • 2–4 years of commodity tax experience at a law firm or accounting firm
  • Fluent in French and English, written and spoken
  • Strong analytical, drafting and communication skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively, with initiative and resourcefulness
  • Business acumen and a client-focused approach
