An established charities and not-for-profit practice is seeking a senior associate or legal director to join its growing team. The team is particularly known for advising charities and other not-for-profits in the health and social care and education sectors, but works with a broad client base reflecting the diverse nature of the sector. Clients include household names, and the team is noted for combining a commercial and pragmatic outlook with a genuine understanding of individual client objectives.

The role can be based in Bristol, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle. You will handle your own caseload and support the lead partner on larger projects, covering the full range of charity law and governance issues while contributing to business development and supervising junior team members.

Work includes advising charity trustees on their duties, charity start-ups and registrations, constitutional reviews and restructuring, governance issues including conflicts of interest and disputes, strategic and commercial matters, mergers and acquisitions, grant agreements and fundraising, endowments and restricted funds, serious incident reporting, and supporting other specialists on charity-related issues. You will also assist with business development and tender preparation.

Excellent relationship and client handling skills, able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day-to-day issues
Strong technical skills and an ability to understand and work through complex issues
Team-oriented and collegiate, with experience of and willingness to mentor, coach and supervise less experienced team members
Exposure to and success within business development activities
Confident communicator with an ability to develop relationships and undertake client marketing
In-house charity experience can be considered
